3000 Ridgeland Development

District 100 is in the process of planning for the development of the land at 3000 Ridgeland in partnership with our architect ARCON Associates, Inc. Phase 1 will include the required underground water retention area and the construction of a parking lot to serve the staff and families of Freedom Middle School. Due to the lack of parking in the area, District 100 staff and families, along with the community, have been limited in accessing the excellent facilities available at FMS. We look forward to providing safe and convenient parking for our staff and families during school hours and after-school events and activities, safer drop off and pick up routes, and a more welcoming environment surrounding the school for our community. Phase 1 is scheduled to begin in Spring 2024.

In 2019, District 100 created a long-range facilities plan in partnership with our architect that has guided our work in improving facilities across our District. This plan is reviewed and updated annually. Construction projects in our schools have included updates to HVAC systems, roof replacements and repairs, exterior masonry improvements, safety and security upgrades, renovation of library spaces, playground and fencing, PA system upgrades, and regular building maintenance. In addressing the significant needs of our schools, District 100 has prioritized the most pressing needs in our buildings and has directed funding toward educational spaces for our students. We also strive to create professional learning spaces for our staff and welcoming environments for our families and community when they visit our schools. Based on an assessment of the current needs in District 100, LaVergne Education is in need of extensive construction and repairs to address ADA compliance, AHERA compliance, and to bring the building up to date with standards for building code and service to our staff and community. The renovations to effectively address these needs exceed the cost of building a new facility. Phase 2 of the Ridgeland development project includes planning for a District Education Center/Family Welcome Center to meet the professional and community needs of the District 100 staff, families, and residents. Outdoor recreational and learning spaces are a priority for this phase as well as for future phases of the development and we look forward to further engagement with our students, staff, and community as planning for future phases continues.
