Student Data Privacy Student Data Privacy; Notice to Parents About Educational Technology Vendors School districts throughout the State of Illinois contract with different educational technology vendors for beneficial K-12 purposes such as providing personalized learning and innovative educational technologies, and increasing efficiency in school operations. Under Illinois’ Student Online Personal Protection Act, or SOPPA (105 ILCS 85/), educational technology vendors and other entities that operate Internet websites, online services, online applications, or mobile applications that are designed, marketed, and primarily used for K-12 school purposes are referred to in SOPPA as operators. SOPPA is intended to ensure that student data collected by operators is protected, and it requires those vendors, as well as school districts and the Ill. State Board of Education, to take a number of actions to protect online student data. Depending upon the particular educational technology being used, our District may need to collect different types of student data, which is then shared with educational technology vendors through their online sites, services, and/or applications. Under SOPPA, educational technology vendors are prohibited from selling or renting a student’s information or from engaging in targeted advertising using a student’s information. Such vendors may only disclose student data for K-12 school purposes and other limited purposes permitted under the law. In general terms, the types of student data that may be collected and shared include personally identifiable information (PII) about students or information that can be linked to PII about students, such as: • Basic identifying information, including student or parent/guardian name and student or parent/guardian contact information, username/password, student ID number • Demographic information • Enrollment information • Assessment data, grades, and transcripts • Attendance and class schedule • Academic/extracurricular activities • Special indicators (e.g., disability information, English language learner, free/reduced meals or homeless/foster care status) • Conduct/behavioral data • Health information • Food purchases • Transportation information • In-application performance data • Student-generated work • Online communications • Application metadata and application use statistics • Permanent and temporary school student record information Operators may collect and use student data only for K-12 purposes, which are purposes that aid in the administration of school activities, such as: • Instruction in the classroom or at home (including remote learning) • Administrative activities • Collaboration between students, school personnel, and/or parents/guardians • Other activities that are for the use and benefit of the school district Click here for a list of approved operators and applications. The list of approved vendors will be updated as privacy agreements are received.

As a reminder, students attending hybrid will be in-person for half days two days a week, either Tuesday and Thursday or Wednesday and Friday. Mondays will continue to be remote for all students. The image below highlights the four phases and the dates when specific grade levels will return. Updated information about the hybrid model, including our hybrid health and safety manual, can be found on our website. A COVID-19 dashboard has been added to our website and will be updated every Friday based on the week’s data for positive cases and close contacts for staff and students. Student numbers will be updated based on the number of students on-site each week, meaning cumulative data for the year should be considered informational only and should not be compared with overall student enrollment. District 100 will be moving forward with the COVID-19 Rapid Point-Of-Care Antigen Testing program for on-site symptomatic staff and students. The program is offered through the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education and we have been working with health officials to complete all the requirements to begin administering tests. We are currently awaiting final state approval and will follow up with the date we will begin testing. For more information on the tests, please see the attached patient fact sheet that will be distributed to students and staff if they are tested in our schools. Once testing is set to begin, parents will receive additional information, including waiver forms in the event you decide to have your child tested at school. The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. District 100 will be implementing all mitigation strategies, including wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and washing hands frequently and need your support to help slow the spread and decrease the likelihood of exposure in our schools. Students attending in-person need to be self-certified every morning and we ask that if your child is sick, he/she remains at home. If your family has traveled out of state or attended large gatherings with people living outside your home, we ask that you follow guidance and recommendations from the Cook County Department of Public Health before sending your child back to school. If your child is a hybrid student but needs to remain at home, please contact your child’s school and he/she may attend remotely. Thank you for your continued partnership. Winter Weather Guidelines Winter Weather Guidelines When winter weather occurs, the safety and well-being of students is our top priority. It is always our goal to have school in session and we take the decision to close schools very seriously. How do we make the decision to open or close schools? When weather conditions are challenging, we make the decision to open or close schools based on careful consideration of several factors, including: Data from the National Weather Service with updates regarding temperature, wind chill, and snow/ice accumulation. Changes to the weather forecast during the course of the school day that indicates if conditions will improve or worsen. Transportation concerns, including anticipated concerns due to weather changes throughout the school day. Condition of mechanical systems to ensure electricity and heat are working properly. Condition of parking lots and sidewalks surrounding school buildings. Snow removal status and road conditions in the community. Discussions with surrounding school districts, including Morton District 201 and North Berwyn District 98. How will families be notified?
