A Message From Our Superintendent

The word "community" truly exemplifies what it means to be a student or staff member in District 100. We consider ourselves a team of educators who partner with families to live our vision of inspiring a passion for learning in every child. We believe our students deserve the very best instruction and resources and we continue to invest in curriculum and professional development that supports rigorous, engaging, and personalized learning environments for our students.

I grew up in Berwyn and attended District 100 as a student. I’ve now had the pleasure of serving students and families in the South Berwyn community for more than 25 years. It’s the people who live here and work here that make it such an incredible place for students to learn, grow, and give back to their community.

Reaffirming Safe, Supportive, and Welcoming Schools for All

District 100 Families,

District 100 strives to ensure that all students and families feel safe, supported, and valued in our school communities. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority, and we want to reaffirm our commitment to upholding the rights of all students and providing our community with reassurance and trust in our schools.

Federal law guarantees that all children in the United States have the right to a free public education, regardless of their immigration status or that of their families. Families can feel confident that their personal information is protected. In accordance with federal law, District 100 does not collect or report information about the immigration status of students or families. Student records are never shared without a court order or the consent of a parent or guardian. Additionally, immigration enforcement officers must have a judicial warrant signed by a judge in order to access any school building.

Fostering an inclusive and welcoming school environment is deeply ingrained in the culture of District 100 and is fundamental to the success of our students. Our commitment to supporting all students and families is reaffirmed through the District 100 Welcoming District Resolution, which was re-adopted by the Board of Education on February 26, 2025.

Resolution to affirm Berwyn South School District 100 as a welcoming district for all students and families

3. WHEREAS D100 is committed to caring for the whole child with respect, fairness, and dignity; by providing a socially, emotionally, and physically safe learning environment for all students;

4. WHEREAS, District 100 celebrates and supports Berwyn's diversity resolution entered into the records of the City of Berwyn on November 22, 2016;

5. WHEREAS, District 100 values and celebrates the diversity of our students, staff, and families and embraces the opportunity to serve our diverse community;

6. WHEREAS, District 100 does not require students or families to disclose information about their citizenship or immigration status, and therefore, D100 will safeguard confidential information and records of any students and their families;

7. WHEREAS, District 100 has policies that prohibit harassment and promote the safety and security of all students and staff; and

8. WHEREAS, pursuant to State law, District 100 schools welcome all students who reside in South Berwyn regardless of immigration status;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education is committed to the safety and well-being of students and staff and prohibits unlawful discrimination and harassment. To the greatest extent possible, D100 will make available any known guidance, resources and support to staff and community in its effort to enforce and uphold the spirit of this Resolution. The Board values all students, staff, and families and will continue to provide a safe, inclusive environment that treats everyone with respect and fairness.

District 100 remains deeply committed to upholding the beliefs outlined in our Welcoming District Resolution. We recognize that, as educators, we play a critical role in defining the experiences of our students and their families and in ensuring that every child feels a sense of belonging and safety in our schools.

If students or families have any concerns related to immigration or need additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the principal or social worker at your child’s school. You can also find helpful resources on our district website or contact Ms. Junely Escobar, District 100’s Family Liaison, for further assistance.
