All About Komensky School

 

 

Komensky Location: 2515 South Cuyler Avenue, Berwyn, IL 60402

Principal:  Mrs. Laura LaSalle

Grades: K-5th

Mascot: Lions

School Colors: Purple and Gold

Awards: Academic Improvement Award 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2007.  Spotlight School 2006 & 2007. District 100's Math Olympiad - 1st place 2005, 2nd place 2006; Brain Bowl - 3rd place 2007.

Komensky History: The current Komensky Elementary School was built in 1974 as a K-8 building accommodating 300 students.  An additional 8 classrooms were added in 2003. Currently there are 18 K-5 classes with 432 students.

A Man called Komensky: 

Komensky Elementary School was named after Jon Amos Komensky.  Komensky was born March 28, 1592 in Nivnici, Moravia.  He introduced the first illustrated text books.  He believed in universal education and physical education for both males and females.  He wrote hundreds of books on education, which earned him the title "Teacher of Nations."
